Traveling with a 4 Month-old

We decided to travel to Vancouver Canada for a 6 day holiday. I will list things I packed for our little one and items that I thought helped the most. If you are limited on packing the top items will be listed first.

First our flight was 4 and half hours. Our flight included carry on each and a diaper bag. Now after our flight I would suggest to only have one carry-on and a diaper bag, as I found the less you had to handle on the flight the best. In Canada and the US flights will check your stroller at the gate. We purchased a travel Stoller as they are much lighter and great for travel. I will have a link below for the stroller we purchased along with more information of the pros to our stroller through out the whole trip. (click the link below for travel stroller Contour)

We packed 2 carry-ons, diaper bag and had a travel stroller. Our first flight we some how had a second check in and so we checked our second carry on. This is where I noticed a difference as on the return flight, we had to handle 2 carry-ons, diaper bag and stroller. If possible, just have one carry on/ diaper bag would be the best.

The most important item we packed was the baby carrier. I will link the carriers we have and list the benefits, but at least one carrier as you will have to hold the baby the whole flight. Even though you look after your baby all day it is uncomfortable to hold your baby on the flight. The seats are not that comfortable, and the arm rests are too low for any support.  Number one item is a carrier. My baby slept in the carrier on both flights ( a side note it is good before you leave to have your little one in the carrier, so they are used to being in the carrier for your trip.) I would wear her around the house in the carrier at different times, so she was used to be put in and out at any time.

Most parents recommend booking your flight during the baby nap time. Now if you have a baby like mine where they do not have a set time for nap, I suggest trying and book the flight in the morning or afternoon. As my baby with any sort of motion she falls asleep. For both flights she slept most of the way. Our morning flight on the Thursday was at 10 am and I kept her occupied while we were at the airport and then when the flight was taking off, she had her soother to help with popping of the ears while she slept.  Lastly pack noise canceling headphones. On our return flight there was a toddler constantly crying this upset my 4-month-old and caused her not to sleep. Once I put the headphones on, she slept. This was the first time she ever gave me issues sleeping with noise. My only conclusion she couldn’t understand the other baby comfortless, and it upset her.

Now for the stay, it was for 6 days and I researched how many clothes to pack especially for her. Now I packed pretty well and would do the same. I packed enough sleepers for each night as my baby did not mess in any before the trip and worst case she could sleep in a onesie if one was soiled in the night. I took 6 days of clothes with additional 2 outfits. This would cover any days there is some mess in her clothes. Shoes now you can either pack a pair of shoes or warm slippers. I had a travel pack of laundry detergent just in case there were issues with clothing for the stay. We packed our car seat and I bought from Babies R Us a car seat travel bag. This was great it protected her car seat in luggage. It will also save you money as some airports will charge a fee for wrapping.

For my self and husband, we packed two extra shirts on top of our regular day outfits for our travels as our little one would usually only mess on our tops.

When we landed I purchased dish soap and a sponge to clean the bottles. If you have a travel size you can pack that. I did not so I decided to buy it when we landed. Our stay was at a hotel, this hotel included free bottled water, this was a great perk especially with formula feeding. The trip in all went great and would do it again. I will be posting another blog on what we did with our 4 month old on the trip.

Below is a list of the items I mentioned above and in order from top priority to last.
